What are you currently working on?
I am responsible for the book programme for children and teens at Der Club Bertelsmann. I develop strategies for the children’s book programme in our catalogue, shops and on our website. I buy licences for our book selections and develop concepts for their commercialisation.
How did you end up at DirectGroup? Please give us a short description of your background.
I am a typical home-grown Bertelsmann star :-) Already during my apprenticeship as industrial clerk at the Bertelsmann AG (1995 - 1998) I had the opportunity to get to know Der Club’s programme department . Just after I finished my apprenticeship a position as assistant in the children’s book department was vacant - so I postponed my plans to study and jumped at the chance. In the following years I completed my business administration studies at the University of Hagen while also working at Der Club. In the meantime I have been promoted from assistant to Director of the Children’s and Young Adult books department, a job I still perform with enthusiasm today.
What is your "pet project"?
My pet project is the ‘Columbus‘ children's club. We created this brand three years ago in close cooperation with the marketing department - we wanted to combine our offer and activities for children while also strengthening our most important target group: children and young families. Since that time we have organised monthly events for children, e.g. Harry Potter Nights in the shops, writing contests or reading days for World Children’s Day. All these activities have contributed to a significant increase in sales over recent years. I am especially enthusiastic about the creativity and the close teamwork with the marketing and sales department.
